NYCDOE: Passport to Social Studies – Grade 12 Participation in Government Unit 1 Text Set

This Passport to Social Studies text set is for the first unit of the Participation in Government course, titled: Foundations of American Democracy. The curated collection of documents included in the text set supports students’ examination of some of the larger Enduring Issues and core concepts in the formation and continued evolution of American democracy, to answer the Essential Question: How has American democracy evolved? It is designed to be used in conjunction with the corresponding Passport to Social Studies Grade 12 Participation in Government Unit 1 Guide. The primary, secondary, and tertiary sources identified for each lesson in the set have been selected to support the lesson's objective and suggested activities. For each lesson there may be a selection of print-based texts, images, maps, or charts.

Members of the Social Studies Department worked with NYCDOE educators and scholars to design and curate the materials provided within. This text set can be adapted and customized to meet your students’ individual needs.
