The CSTEP playbook: Street Trees is designed to support middle school teachers in designing and carrying out projects that investigate climate change through the lens of monitoring street trees and learning about tree stewardship in New York City and other urban areas. It is part of a series of playbooks that were developed by New York City Department of Education teachers and staff members from external partner organizations during the 2020 - 2021 school year.
This webinar introduces viewers to the important role that street trees and urban forests play in mitigating effects of climate change in cities. Viewers will learn about interactive maps and other resources that can be used to identify species of local street trees and to monitor tree health and stewardship. They will also learn about how a dendrometer can be used to monitor an individual tree's physiological activity. Finally, the webinar provides guidance on how to implement street tree projects, and how to support students in caring for and advocating for trees in their communities.
