The Department of Social Studies and Civics collaborated with international bestselling author and comic book writer Kami Garcia, and Lissy Marlin, an award-winning, New York Times bestselling illustrator from the Dominican Republic to create Hyper-focused: ADHD & Me, a Hidden Voices comic under the Civics for All Comics Group imprint. 

Hyper-focused: ADHD & Me is a comic about Kami, an adolescent middle schooler. Kami’s experiences are based on the author’s own experiences with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). Kami’s experience with hyper-focus is far from universal. Her story is one of many experiences that neurodivergent people may encounter as young adults. Kami’s strengths and challenges may be different than others with ADHD.
