In this Theater Making Unit, students will analyze dramatic texts so that they can act them effectively. The unit will provide the students with one specific method that they can apply to any dramatic text so that they can illuminate the text with dynamism and dramatic power.

In this Arts and the Common Core Theater Unit, the goal is to assist students in their exploration of story creation, theatrical production and the variety of professional theatrical opportunities available. The Introduction to Theater Arts Half-Unit Course was developed in alignment with the New York City Department of Education's Blueprint for Teaching and Learning in Theater which builds and incorporates the New York State Learning Standards for the Arts. This course will allow students to meet a portion of the general high school arts requirement. This course of study provides an overview of the five strands of the Blueprint, i.e. Theater Making, Developing Theater Literacy, Making Connections, Working with Community and Cultural Resources, and Exploring Careers and Lifelong Learning. Additionally, all four New York State Theater Arts Standards are addressed by this unit as well.
