Module 1: Awareness

In Module 1: Awareness, educators are introduced to "Awareness," the first of the 5 A's in Dr. Jamila Lyiscott's Liberation Literacies Pedagogy. In this module, educators will develop critical competencies to understand and support students with: understanding their racial, cultural, and linguistic identities and how their identities impact how they are situated within digital ecologies; understanding and disrupting inequitable sociopolitical realities that are connected to their identities; with becoming aware of/assessing student needs in an ongoing manner.

Please note that throughout each module, it is essential that you engage in all texts, activities, and reflection on a personal level before you begin to implement a Liberation Literacies approach into your pedagogy. Each module is adaptable for both you and students, but personal development must precede pedagogical impact.
