NYCDOE: Passport to Social Studies – Grade 11 Unit 1 Text Set

This Passport to Social Studies text set is for the fifth unit of the Global History and Geography II course, titled: Tensions between Traditional Cultures and Modernization. The curated collection of documents included in the text set supports students’ examination of  some of the larger Enduring Issues facing the contemporary world, to answer the Essential Question: What is the price of modernization? It is designed to be used in conjunction with the corresponding Passport to Social Studies Grade 11 Unit 1 Guide. The primary, secondary, and tertiary sources identified for each lesson in the set have been selected to support the lesson's objective and suggested activities. For each lesson there may be a selection of print-based texts, images, maps, or photographs.

Members of the Social Studies Department worked with educators and historians to design and curate the materials provided within. This text set can be adapted and customized to meet your students’ individual needs.
