NYC Reads Guidance and Resources K-5

NYC PS is committed to using evidence-based instructional practices, curriculum, and intervention programming within a tiered instructional system to improve literacy outcomes for all students. Research has shown that when teachers instruct their students using a research-based, high-quality core (i.e., Tier 1) curriculum, it is more likely to result in improved student literacy outcomes (Fuchs et al., 2010; McMaster et al., 2008).  When curriculum is aligned across grade levels, it builds a foundation that promotes student opportunities to progress from year to year and prepares them for success in the post-secondary future of their choosing.
