NYC Literacy Shifts 2023-2024

Grades 6 - 12 AIS - Literacy English Language Arts English Language Learners

NYC READS is an intentional decision by New York City Public Schools to make a difference in outcomes for all the students in our school system.  The Science of Reading is a vast body of scientifically based research about reading and issues related to reading and writing.  It focuses on five main components that are fundamental to reading: phonics phonemic awareness, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension; a method that requires systematic, explicit, and cumulative instruction; and an alignment between reading
assessments, core instruction, and intervention that results in improved student outcomes for all learners.
