Summative End-of-Year Conference toolkit

The Summative End-of-Year Conference Toolkit provides information regarding policy requirements, highlights promising practices, and includes tools, templates, and sample videos to support school leaders and teachers in preparing for collaborative professional conversations.

The Summative End-of-Year Conference is a mandatory face-to-face meeting between the Advance-eligible teacher and the principal and/or other evaluator. The purpose of this collaborative conversation is to review feedback and ratings from observations of practice and to identify successes, areas for improvement, and next steps toward the teachers continued professional growth.

Included Resources

This self-reflection tool is intended to support teachers in celebrating their growth and continuing to strengthen their practice. This tool can be used by teachers voluntarily as a resource to guide their thinking as they reflect on their instructional practice, including areas of strength, areas for growth, current support, and desired future support.

As school leaders prepare for teachers’ Summative End-of-Year Conferences, this optional reflection tool may help them plan while reviewing the feedback and ratings from observations of practice. A principal might consider asking all evaluators to complete this reflection for one to three teachers and plan a discussion around it during a norming meeting.

This optional template can support school leaders in integrating best practices into Summative End-of-Year Conferences to support teachers’ continued professional growth.

This document outlines best practices for school leaders and administrative teams as the schedule, prepare for, and reflect upon Summative End-of-Year Conferences.
