Chancellor's Principal conference 2016: Equity and excellence

On May 21, 2016, principals, attended the Chancellor's Principal Conference to hear from Chancellor Carmen Fariña, Deputy Chancellor for Teaching and Learning Phil Weinberg, and Principal Dr. Reggie Landeau Jr.

This collection contains materials from the various breakout sessions held throughout the day, which was focused on Equity and Excellence.

This session focused on the key components of the Universal Literacy initiative in elementary schools, which supports early reading and writing acquisition with the goal of all 2nd grade students reading at grade level by 2026. 

This session focused on the implementation of the Computer Science for All (CS4All) initiative in Middle Schools.

This session focused on how to create and/or expand the college-going culture in middle schools through the implementation of an early college awareness program. 

This session focused on examples of developmentally appropriate pre-kindergarten (Pre-K) instruction in the context of high quality Pre-K programming, aligned to K-12 standards, as defined by the NYC Pre-K for All Quality Standards. 

This session focused on walking parent leaders through each initiative in order to ensure that there is a clear understanding of the roll-out of these initiatives.

This session focused on building strong partnerships between schools and families. Participants will discuss strategies and proven practices, events, and activities that can build trust and strong partnerships between schools and families.
