Blueprints for teaching and learning in the arts

The Blueprints for Teaching and Learning in the Arts provide teachers with a path to follow for developing curriculum in all arts disciplines, and provide benchmarks for what children should know, understand, and be able to do in dance, music, theater, and visual arts at critical junctures in their intellectual, physical, and emotional development. In addition, the Blueprints provide school administrators with tools to appropriately supervise arts teachers and to recognize and share with parents the potential their children have for achievement in the arts.

The Blueprint for Teaching and Learning in the Moving Image: PreK-12 provides a rigorous, standards-based approach to the study of the moving image and film. Developed with the help of several external media arts and cultural organizations, t allows students to explore the rich content and history of this art form along with connections to other disciplines, and it takes advantage of the vast media resources available in New York City. For teachers, it establishes benchmark expectations while allowing individual programs to explore a variety of dimensions and approaches within the media arts. By providing sequential learning opportunities, the Blueprint provides a foundation for advanced study and for exploring careers in various media fields that are a mainstay of the New York City economy.
