Peter's garden

This unit contains a curriculum‐embedded Common Core–aligned task and instructional supports. The task is embedded in a 6-week unit on understanding fractions as equal parts, understanding fractional sets/groups, partitioning shapes into equal areas, locating fractions on a number line, and comparing fractions. The mathematics of the final performance task involves problem‐solving using fractions. The context is sharing a classroom garden between four classrooms. Students must partition the classroom garden to make equal parts for each class. Students must illustrate their knowledge of fractions through area models, fractional sets, and number lines.
