Designing Euclid's playground (geometry)

This Common Core-aligned task with instructional supports comes at the end of a unit addressing the following topics: 1) Explain volume formulas and use them to solve problems (G-GMD.1, 3) 2) Visualize relationships between two-dimensional and three-dimensional objects (MP.4) 3) Modeling with geometry (G-MG.1, 2, 3) and 4) Apply geometric concepts in modeling situations (MP.1, 4, 6).  In the task, students find the volume and surface area of geometric figures (cone, pyramid, and sphere). Students use knowledge of trigonometric ratios to solve problems. Students have learned the properties of two-dimensional geometric shapes, similarity, and trigonometry. Students have learned trigonometric ratios and how to apply them to problem solving.
