For Teachers By Teachers: Best practices for literacy instruction grades 6-12
For Teachers By Teachers (FTBT): Best Practices in Common Core Aligned Literacy Instruction is a collection of teacher-created resources designed to help other teachers increase the rigor of literacy instruction in their 6-12 grade classrooms.
There are four FTBT collections : Foundations, Reading, Speaking and Listening, and Writing. Each collection offers strategies teachers can implement in their classrooms immediately. The strategies are geared toward two keystone ideas from the Common Core State Standards (CCSS): (1) the necessity of offering students access to and practice with complex texts and (2) the necessity of offering students the tools they need to read, write, and speak based on evidence from the texts they read.
The For Teachers By Teachers content was originally offered as an online class, and is now available to all NYCDOE teachers in the WeTeachNYC library. As such, you will see and hear references to things like units and message boards. These only apply to the active online class, not the materials in the library.
