Access online and blended learning opportunities for registered program participants
WeTeachNYC Classes & Communities provide NYC teachers and school leaders with an online space where they can engage in online classes and blended learning communities with their colleagues. Currently, access to communities is limited to participants in specific NYCDOE programs.

Included Resources

This book provides samples of materials to support educators as they implement or enhance independent reading in their classrooms or schools. Specifically, the book includes:

  • An overview of key research that explains how independent reading is beneficial to students
  • Discussion of key independent reading structures and routines accompanied by multiple versions of tools to support their implementation
  • Resources for building, organizing, and refining classroom libraries for independent reading
  • Supports for instruction during independent reading time, which include conferring, guided reading, and targeted small-group work
  • Resources for assessing student progress and grading their work with independent reading
