These resources are for educators interested in using, creating and sharing audio recordings and screen captures.
Included Resources
Listenwise is a platform that aims to increase students' listening skills by providing short podcasts on a variety of topics. Listenwise partners with public radio producers to create the podcasts which span the following content areas: current events, ELA, science and social studies. Lesson plans are also provided. Access is free but teachers need to create an account.
Soundcloud enables users to upload podcasts for free. A variety of files including AIFF, WAVE (WAV), FLAC, ALAC, OGG, MP2, MP3, AAC, AMR, and WMA are accepted. The maximum file size is 5GB.
Audacity is free software used to record and edit podcasts. Please note this software needs to be downloaded and is recommended for use with PCs. Learning to create and edit podcasts takes a bit of practice. Here is a seven part tutorial to help with the basics.
The free version of Screencast-O-Matic offers basic tools for creating a screencast up to 15 minutes long. This tool might be useful for creating "flipped" content or developing custom videos tutorials. Videos can be saved as MP4s on your computer or published to YouTube. Please note the editing features are somewhat limited and there is a watermark in the background when using the free version. (For a fee, you can upgrade and access more editing tools.)
Screencastify is a Google Chrome extension that enables users to easily capture, edit and share screencasts.
