Actively learning students are not only hands-on but minds-on, engaging in cognitive challenges. This set of resources supports teachers in developing their practice in this component.

Through engaging in this 40-minute professional learning activity, participants will define student cognitive engagement and explain how minds-on engagement differs from hands-on engagement. Participants will also identify a challenge or questions they have about engagement that they want to investigate and assess in their classroom.

Through engaging in this 40-minute professional learning activity, participants will develop a shared definition of rigorous instruction and intellectual engagement that will support them in developing both areas.

Through this 45-minute professional learning activity, participants will distinguish between "compliant" and "engaged" students. Participants will also plan next steps that ensure that all students are intellectually engaged learners.
