NYCDOE: Passport to Social Studies – Grade 9 Unit 3 Text Set
Note to Teachers: To help with remote learning, student graphic organizers for this unit are available on the NYCDOE TeachHub in a Google Drive folder along with Passport to Social Studies lessons that have been adjusted for remote learning. Access these materials by following these instructions.
This Passport to Social Studies text set is for the third unit of the Global History and Geography I course, titled: The Ottoman and the Ming Dynasties (pre-1600 CE). The curated collection of documents included in the text set supports students’ examination of two powerful kingdoms, the Ming Dynasty and the Ottoman Empire, to create a comparative analysis of the two Eurasian civilizations. It is designed to be used in conjunction with the corresponding Passport to Social Studies Grade 9 Unit Guide. The primary, secondary, and tertiary sources identified for each lesson in the set have been selected to support the lesson's objective and suggested activities. For each lesson there may be a selection of print-based texts, images, maps, or photographs.
Members of the Social Studies Department worked with educators and historians to design and curate the materials provided within. This text set can be adapted and customized to meet your students’ individual needs.
